Ayurvedic Therapies

The word Ayurveda comes from the Ancient Indian language Sanskrit and literally means “Science or knowledge of life”.  Originating more than 4,000 years ago in India, Ayurveda is believed to be the oldest health system known to man today.  Rather than just treating physical symptoms, Ayurveda treats the whole person and teaches that total health and wellbeing can only be achieved when mind, body and spirit are in a state of balance and harmony.
This integrated approach of combining nutrition, herbal remedies, yoga and massage, long understood by the east, and now being embraced by many in the west, has relevance in today’s stress-laden “modern society”, and is leading many to rediscover Ayurveda.
At the core of Ayurvedic Philosophy is the concept of three body types (dosha’s) – vata, pitta and kapha - the vital energies that make up each constitution.  Depending on your lifestyle patterns and current state of health, a practitioner will recognise your individual body type (doshic balance) and advise a therapy specific to the root cause of imbalance.
Massage is an important part of Ayurvedic therapy - by working on marma (vital) points and opening up blocked energy channels, the flow of energy (prana) increases, allowing you to feel the connection throughout the body.  It makes you feel peaceful and aware.
Ayurvedic massage provides the most comprehensive therapeutic structure for massage. It can benefit those suffering from ailments such as migraines, arthritis, insomnia, sciatica, cellulite, circulation disorders, anxiety, as well as revive a tired and weak body. Specific to your current dosha, herbal oils and remedies are blended within massage to prevent and combat ailments.
